School Council

We want to prepare the children at Breachwood Green School JMI for the democratic world we live in, recognising that their opinion counts and knowing that it can be used to influence others.  We want our children to be part of the important decision making that drives our school forward.  In order to achieve this, at the start of each year the children are asked to write manifestos which they then read to their classes. Each class then vote for the children who they think will be the best representives for the school.   The results are below:

 School Councillors 2018 - 2019

Year 6 Freya  David

Friday 16th November

On Wednesday this week, the school councillors met to discuss the new behaviour policy. They discussed the new Good to be Green system so that we could have a consistent approach across the school. For example:

1. Swinging on your class chair = Stop & Think Card

2. Continuous talking when a child has already been asked to stop = Yellow Card

3. Rude or disrespectful, extremely bad behaviour = Red Card

Teachers will ring home when a child gets a red card. These are some of the thoughts we have had and which we will begin to trial. We will keep you updated.

Friday 28th September

The school councillors had their first meeting this week and have already made a start with their first project, the behaviour policy. Our Communications Officer, Amelia, has written the following: In the meeting we thought about getting a new card system (Good to be Green) as we think it will help with changing the cards. We also thought that a note should be sent home saying that a child has changed their card because some children don’t see getting a card as being told off (this hasn’t be finalised yet). Our current card system has yellow, orange, red and green cards. The new card system has a ’Stop and Think’ card. Now, here’s the bad news, we don’t have any money so we can’t get the charts. So, we discussed raising money and we came up with the decision to have a pyjama day. Children (and staff!) are allowed to wear things such as pyjamas and onesies. They need to bring in a £1 as we need to raise £99.96 for the new behaviour system. Please help us raise this money!

Changes made by the Councillors in 2017 - 2018

Reward Afternoon

The children in school asked for something special to celebrate the winning house colour each term.  The councillors felt a reward afternoon would be a good incentive and polled the school to identify which would be the most popular activity. As a result of this, the winning house colour now receive a 'Movie and Popcorn Afternoon' at the end of each term.

Buddy Bench Reinstated

The councillors identified that the Buddy Bench is not being used as it had previously been intended to and asked if they could give it a revamp. They chose a new Buddy Bench sign and gave the school two options for a poem on it.  Watch this space to see the finished product...coming soon.

It was brought to the councillors' attention that the children would like more options for after school clubs at Breachwood Green so they asked Mrs Badham to see what clubs were on offer.  The councillors then went back to their classes and asked them to vote on a number of clubs. As a result of this, the children have been offered the following clubs for the autumn term:

- KS2 Dodgeball

- Football

- Scooter

- Gymnastics

- Tech Club

- Choir
