Operation Encompass
Our school is proud to be part of Operation Encompass, a national initiative that supports children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.
What is Operation Encompass?
Operation Encompass is a partnership between police forces and schools. It ensures that when police attend incidents of domestic abuse involving children, the school is informed before the start of the next school day. This enables us to offer immediate and tailored support to affected pupils in a safe and nurturing environment.
Why is this important?
Children who experience domestic abuse can arrive at school upset, withdrawn, or unprepared for the day. By receiving timely information, our staff—particularly our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)—can respond appropriately, offering care, understanding, and practical support.
Our Commitment
- Our DSL (Mrs Kirsty Badham) and our Deputy DSL (Mrs Jodie Renwick) are our trained Key Adults who have undertaken Operation Encompass training and acts on Operation Encompass notifications. All staff have been trained by the DSL on Operation Encompass.
- All information is handled confidentially and sensitively, in line with our safeguarding policies.
- We work closely with families and external agencies to ensure the wellbeing of every child.
Legal Context
Operation Encompass is now a statutory requirement under the Victims and Prisoners Act 2024, which places a legal duty on police forces to share relevant information with schools.
